A Hypothetical Speculation on this Blog’s Future

As you can tell for those who are still coming back to this blog that’s still being updated despite the fact that there is no new Survivor on the air, you might wonder how this blog will continue throughout the time. While I could be doing a blog about Bob’s Burgers that I have talked about doing for quite some time now, I don’t believe that I will largely due to changes in blogger that I’ll get into in another post. For now, what am I supposed to do with this blog? And will it stay updated for as long as I’m able to write it in the end? Well, let’s delve into this.

You see, I’m not entirely sure yet where I’m going with this post, but do feel that it is a good one to write now because a hiatus of Survivor for over a year can make you wonder what a Survivor blogger like me is supposed to do. I still have at least two seasons that I’m writing about at times. There are more of the old seasons that I want to cover and I will even do some that I have already written about.

I always want to write about something in any one of my blogs. Even after four of the shows that I watch have ended, I still do blogs about them based on what the cast of them is doing now. I can even cover subjects that have nothing to do with the shows in question that I blog about such as doing posts just about politics in my blogs about Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, and The Good Fight. I want to write about something and wonder if I could review TV shows for a living. I don’t know yet if I will ever have this chance to do so in the end, but can only hope that I can.

Basically, there are a lot of random posts to write about still so that you shouldn’t have to worry about me not having content. I wish that it were quality content or something that people were interested in, but have no idea yet if this will happen or not. One can always suggest what posts you might want to see in the future and I’ll let you know if that can happen or not. That’s all that I can think of for this post. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

Survivor: Cagayan- Hero or Villain

As usual, there are some seasons that I want to keep track of the heroes and villains from it so I think that I should include this season in the list as well. I should get into why Survivor is having an even longer offseason than usual as most people might know in a different post of this blog not dedicated to that. But I remain dedicated to doing as many of these blog posts as possible regardless of it there is a season to blog about at all. Now let’s get to the post in question.

When we go through the cast of the 28th season of Survivor, it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out where some of the players rank in terms of their villainy or, perhaps, their heroicness. Of course, maybe they are neither in the end. But let’s get started with the first one out and work my way to the winner from there. You can let me know your thoughts in the comments.

David was the first one out and didn’t leave much of an impact on the game outside of trying to do some moves, but ultimately being hated enough that he was taken out. Most people can’t be hated unless they are bad in some way so I’m going to put him as a villain as a result.

Garrett was too much of a dumb player to rank that well either way with being a hero or villain. It is not like he’s trying to do something right when he was getting voted out with an idol in his possession. Thus, he is neither a hero nor a villain.

Brice was known at one point for doing a Survivor website where he liked to throw shade at people. He may not have made much of an influence on the game, but I do think that he was a villain and one that I like as a player nonetheless.

J’Tia is effectively a female Brandon Hantz the way she played the game. She didn’t last as long (which is great), but she is so undoubtedly a villain that one can’t even make a case for anything else that has seen her play the game in the end or remembers her even a little.

Cliff was one of the notable celebrities who had played Survivor. Some make it further than others. He was voted out after his tribe threw a challenge. But I feel that it wasn’t too hard to keep track of where he ranks on this list as he was clearly a hero to me in my mind.

Lindsey is known for being a quitter, even though her reasoning doesn’t seem to make as much sense in the end. I thought about maybe putting her as a villain, but am not sure that would be a good label. All I know is that she’s not really a hero either, so I have to rank her as neither.

Alexis is a nice person from what I remember, even if she didn’t wind lasting that long in the game for reasons that I don’t remember as well right now. I’d still rank her on the hero side of players based on what little I remember of her.

Sarah was a different player the first time around versus what she would become in later seasons. She kind of does flip between what type of player she is at times since she adapts better sometimes at the game than she does at other times throughout the game. This time around, I’d say she’s neither.

Morgan also didn’t seem to have that much of an influence on the game despite making it further than a lot of other people in it. I mean, I could read the posts that I wrote on Cagayan again and probably will at some point in the future, but won’t right now. In terms of being a hero or villain, she is neither to me in the end at this point in time.

L J seemed to make his mark on the game the same way a lot of other players this season weren’t as well known as they could be, even making it as far as he did. I’d have to say that what I remember of him makes him seem like a hero in the end.

Jeremiah, also known as Jeremy, was quite a good player. It is hard to even explain how he wound up on the wrong side of the numbers since his tribe was doing well before the merge, but the game changes a lot throughout the game. I rank him as a hero.

Jefra was kind of boring or at least seemed that way since she didn’t have much footage of her game shown in the end. I’d have to say that she wasn’t that much of a hero or a villain and was thus only neither in the search for a label for him.

Tasha in this season was a great player that could have made it further if she either won more or had gotten on the right numbers this time she played. While returning certainly made her a different player, this season around, she’s clearly a hero.

Trish is quite a character and there wasn’t much to her that we can’t say for one reason or another had been the way that it was. I hope that makes sense to some people. I can’t quite put her on one side of the split that easily, but do think that she better fits in with being a villain than anything else.

Spencer was much better the first time he played despite making it further the second time that he played. It can be a curse, really, to be a better player when you don’t make it as far. This season, it was clear that he was the hero of the season.

Kass was clearly a villain this time around to the point that calling her something else wouldn’t even make that much sense. Do you think that anything else would work, either this season or any other one as well? I know she played again, but can’t think of what might have changed then.

Woo will be remembered for being a dumb player who could have easily won if only he didn’t win the final immunity challenge. That’s ironic, right? He was so concerned about playing an honorable game that he didn’t care that it would cost him that win. That’s what makes him a hero, if still a dumb one.

Tony might be one of my favorite villains who ever played the game. He was quite a villain who was in control of the game so much despite not even winning immunity individually. It is hard not to like him despite his evil ways.

Well, there you have it. I don’t know what else to say and am sorry that I had to rush this post here at the last minute and won’t be able to get rid of the last minute edits that I’m always having to do now that the new blogger exists. Ugh. Let’s not talk about that now, but save that for other posts. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

Survivor: China episode 4: Ride the Workhorse Till the Tail Falls Off

I still don’t yet know when or how they could do a Survivor season during a pandemic. What would they do if someone got coronavirus during the filming of a season? Would they have to pull anyone and everyone who winds up getting it? They’ve never had to pull more than one player at once before and a virus like this could change that. And there have been a lot of players who were medically evacuated thus far. Who were they all?

We’ve had the following contestants medically evacuated: Michael Skupin from Australia, Bruce from Panama, Gary from Fiji, Jonathan from Micronesia, James from Micronesia, Joe Dowdle from Tocantins, Mike Borassi from Samoa, Russell Swan from Samoa, Kourtney from One World, Colton from One World, Dana from Philippines, Shamar from Carmoan, Erik from Caramoan, Terry from Cambodia, Caleb from Kaoh Rong, Neal from Kaoh Rong, Joe del Campo from Kaoh Rong, and Pat from David versus Goliath. Of those players, Michael Skupin, Jonathan, James, Russell Swan, Colton, and Caleb have all played the game since they were evacuated. I would like the others to play again at some point. I will get to groupings of these players in a later post on this season’s posts.

Now let’s get to challenges that start with v from Survivor. I’ll go through them as usual and see what works and what doesn’t with potential social distancing. A challenge with this real name was known by another name. Let’s start with that.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Vertigo

This challenge is also known as Perch and Crystal Method. In it, the contestants would have to put water in a tube to get something from the tube. There were puzzle aspects of this added in other versions of it after it first appeared. In Micronesia, this challenge was combined with Great Escape Run, meaning that I will get to the g challenges in the next blog post on this season’s episodes. This challenge could be done while social distancing in its purest form.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Vampire_Bats

This challenge is also known as Gang Hang. In it, the contestants hang on a bar for as long as they can. Since there is not much to this challenge, it could be done while social distancing. It shouldn’t be too hard to space out contestants in the challenge if they do it that way.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Vertically_Challenged

This challenge is also known as Final Four-Titude. In it, the contestants must race up a obstacle to get puzzle pieces, bring it down, do that over and over again until they have all they need, and then solve the puzzle in the end. Since it is an individual challenge, it probably could be done while social distancing since it only appears in the finale of the show as a final immunity challenge.

This episode was rolled on Monday, September 14, 2020. I have a lot that I will be busy with the next set of days so hopefully this won’t mess up my blogs too much. Besides, I think that I learned that you can put something there after it is supposed to be there and thus pretend that it was there at the right time in the end since you scheduled it for earlier somehow.

We begin with Jean-Robert talking about how he survived the night. It was big that he survived the vote and thinks that it would be lucky if Courtney survived the next vote. She and Jean-Robert continue to have verbal spats with each other that she’s sick of.

At Zhan Hu, they learn that a lot of the rice is moldy. Sherea gets upset at Dave as he tries to be a good leader. She then takes shells of his which gets him upset some more. Sherea seems to be showing all sorts of attitude in the end.

The tribe gets treemail about a challenge at tribal council for food or something like that. This is weird. At the challenge, they have to use giant chopsticks to transport a fireball. In the end, Fei Long wins and they kidnap Dave from the other tribe.

Dave is glad that he is kidnapped. But should he be? They may realize just how well things are without him and want him out as a result. He then wonders who to give the clue to. Todd correctly thinks that Dave is a nutcase. Dave thinks that he can trust Todd and gives Todd the idol clue.

At Zhan Hu, some think that Dave was too happy to be leaving. They believe that they will have to pick up the slack that Dave did since Dave was the workhorse. Sherea wants to conserve her energy for now. The other tribe then gets greeted by the family of fishermen. The family has younger kids in it. Jean-Robert actually knows the language that he hasn’t used in years. When birds show up, Denise thinks that they might be for eating, but are instead used for fishing. James gets annoyed when Jean-Robert translates in what is considered to be a bossy way. Denise thinks that these people make better food than she does at school while Amanda is happy at the experience.

We then get to the immunity challenge at hand. They will be put in armor as they have to break the other tribe’s vases that are behind them. The first round is Denise and Courtney versus Peih-Gee and Sherea. Each team will have three throws per round. Zhan Hu scores a point. The next round has Todd and James versus Frosti and Dave. Fei Long gets two points in this round. The last round is Jamie and Erik versus Amanda and Aaron. Zhan Hu gets points, but Fei Long gets more points over the rounds and wins immunity as a result.

Back at Zhan Hu again, they talk about the tough challenge and wanting to eat before tribal council. Dave finds it strange that he is back at Zhan Hu, correctly thinking that he’s in danger. Jamie thinks that the vote will be between the lazy Sherea or the annoying Dave. Sherea thinks that her name will be written down tonight with others gathered at the lake talking about her. Erik wishes that he could get rid of both Sherea and Dave.

At tribal council, the contestants talk about Dave and what happened after he left after being kidnapped by the other tribe. Sherea thinks that she’s been stepping it up more at camp while claiming that she has been resting more at camp. Peih-Gee thinks that there needs to be a balance between doing what needs to be done at camp and working in the challenges. Not much can be gathered at the tribal council. While Dave votes for Sherea, the rest of the tribe of Sherea, Peih-Gee, Jamie, Frosti, and Erik vote off Dave making him the next player to go.

On the next Survivor, Jamie and Erik seems to fall in love with Erik even admitting that he’s a virgin for some reason. There is then a twist that changes the game a lot. Of course it does. What twist doesn’t change the game? Why even have a twist if it does nothing?

Total confessional count: Aaron- 5, Frosti- 5, Jean-Robert- 5, Dave- 10, Sherea- 5, Erik- 3, James- 3, Amanda- 4, Courtney- 5, Todd- 9, Jamie- 8, Peih-Gee- 6, Denise- 4.

New confessionals this episode: Sherea- 4, Erik- 2, James- 1, Amanda- 2, Courtney- 1, Todd- 2, Jamie- 1, Peih-Gee- 0, Denise- 3, Aaron- 1, Frosti- 2, Jean-Robert- 3, Dave- 3.

When it comes to the chances of Dave returning to the game, he wasn’t a nice contestant and I do think that he would probably be low on a shortlist of players that producers would want back. I would put his chances of returning to the game at around 30%.

There is more to talk about and, as usual, I don’t know when I’ll get back to blogging about more of the Gabon posts as it seems like it has been a while since I’ve covered that season and I don’t yet know when I’ll be back to that. Thus, while I might be covering more Survivor seasons in this post, I will not know yet if this will be the last post of a season this month. Thus, I will cover the planned schedule for the blog posts for October. Even if I do Sunday posts in this month, I’ll be covered. I might even get as ahead as I can with posts by covering even more future months ahead of what I need to.

That’s all for this post as there isn’t much else to say outside of the closing that I feel has to be in here for some reason. I might want to talk more about China’s role in the world today in one of the posts that I am doing as there is a serious issue worth addressing about it. Well, there is more than one, but at least one that I feel like talking about here. I’ll be back sometime with this season after at least two weeks off from this blog being on Friday. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

Survivor: China episode 3: I Lost Two Hands and Possibly a Shoulder!

There’s a lot to potentially talk about in future introductions for this blog when I cover a regular episode or something like that. I recently learned of the death of Cliff Robinson from Survivor: Cagayan. He did not die from coronavirus, but from lymphoma. I’ll have to see if there was a tribute podcast to him that Rob would have done on his podcast. I need to check more of his podcasts to see if he has been doing anything lately at all that I would be interested in.

Basically, there is a lot to juggle with potential seasons of Survivor to blog about and I don’t yet know just how much I can fit at once. I want to blog about All-Stars for the first time. I’ll want to blog about both Blood versus Water and now Cagayan again. I do have a plan to see Borneo again and do have it on my list of things to watch as I will be waiting to add it to that in the future. Also, Australia has to be kept open in case I blog about it as I do have it, but don’t yet know when I will watch it.

What’s worth noting is that two potential spots in blog updates will be kept open for the first two seasons so I can only get as high as five at once and only have three more spots to go with the two I have anyways. Plus, spots can open up if I’m done blogging about a season. That means that I could put any updates on Sundays once I’m done with Gabon of any season that’s not this one. I also hope that the Australia discs play well as I haven’t checked to see if they work and they are used (meaning not new when I got them). They looked like they could have potential issues with them.

As promised in the last post of this season, I might as well get to the challenge links from Survivor fandom of the challenges that start with p. There are a lot of them so I might as well get to all of them, starting with the two mentioned in the last post.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Paddle_Out

This challenge is also known as Inside Track, It’s in the Bag, Tracks of my Tears, Roll Away the Dew, and Burn to Rung. In the challenge, the contestants or tribes have to maneuver balls on a paddle until they are in all of their slots. This challenge could be done while social distancing when it appears on its own in a basic format on its own.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Pyramid_Scheme

This challenge is also known as Tangled Up in Blue. In it, the contestants or tribes have to make their way through obstacles to solve a pyramid puzzle. The individual version of this could be done while social distancing, but I don’t think that the tribal version could.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Paddle_Battle

This challenge is also known as Wooden Ships. In it, contestants race on land and water in a boat. I think that this challenge could not be done while social distancing since it relies on being too close to each other in the end relating to how it is done.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Perch

This challenge is also known as Self-Destruction. In it, contestants stand on a perch to see who lasts the longest with food and other temptations possibly getting them off, outside of the version of this that had appeared in Cook Islands that arguably wasn’t this challenge at all. This challenge could be done while social distancing. Perch was also the name of Vertigo when it was used in Panama, but that is a different challenge entirely, worth covering in another post with the v challenges that I will cover in the next post of this season.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Pilfering_Pirates

In this challenge, contestants have to steal items from another boat and can attack each other within a designated attack zone. Since it involves physical contact, this can’t be done while social distancing. It is also one of the funniest challenges that happened when it appeared the first time. I doubt that it would appear again anyways due to the controversy it unintentionally called in All-Stars.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Piranha_Feast

This challenge is also known as Hungry for Love and Pig Out. In it, contestants have to rip meat off with their mouths only and get the most weight of meat. Some versions allow the winners to keep the meat that they get off, which you’d hope would be clean after it is used. This challenge can’t be done while social distancing and it would be wasting things in the end.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Pole_Dancing

This challenge is also known as Money Box. In it, contestants have to untangle a rope and complete a task. This challenge could be done while social distancing. I mean, can you think of a reason why it would not be done that way in the end?

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Pot_Head

This challenge is also known as Price on Your Head. In it, one has to balance a pot on your head as endurance or with obstacles. It was the only endurance challenge that I know of where there was a time limit on it. It could be done while social distancing.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Push_Me,_Pull_You

In this challenge, contestants must pull two metal bars in order to apply tension and stay in the challenge. I think that it could be done while social distancing. Most endurance challenges can, but they also have to deal with the fact that most of them just have contestants standing around and doing next to nothing the whole time outside of outlasting.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Puzzle_Dig

This challenge is also known as Make Your Point or Dash, Dig, Decode. In it, contestants must dig puzzle pieces out of the sand while finding coordinates or something like it. It is possible that this challenge could possibly be done while social distancing, although maybe not a tribal version unless they did it in heats of just one at a time.

TV shows on DVD I watch update: Flashpoint season 4 is done and replaced by home videos. While I do have a movie choice of that, this one is a different set of them in a TV choice. In fact, I got rid of the movie choice of that for now as an option in the meantime. Also note that Power Rangers season 1 switches with season 3 again while mystery choice #5 switches with mystery choice #6. That’s a lot of switching that is going on.

I rolled this episode on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. This explains why I didn’t update my Survivor blog with a random post on that date as I updated the TV blog instead since I rolled for a Survivor episode. I do plan to keep the Cliff information in this post, but only plan to switch it to a Gabon post in the event that I’m not able to post this on Friday after all due to rolling for another Survivor choice.

Also, I made a bit of a goof in the calendar. It should be noted that any time before or after a known update on Friday of a blog that’s not this one would I update this blog on Wednesday (typically) and not just after as was stated in the calendar, or else I wouldn’t have a Friday post and then a Wednesday post as well. Sorry for any confusion relating to that. Another goof should have mentioned a second update of The Good Wife blog this month too. Also note that the previous rule applies to Sundays as well.

We begin with both Courtney and Leslie complaining about Jean-Robert and his sleeping habits. He is making the women uncomfortable. Amanda doesn’t like him either, although she isn’t part of the whole conservation that is going on right now. Leslie is convinced that Jean-Robert will be going first.

The people on this tribe find a crab that they want to eat. Maybe they want to put it in their mouths going around the marketplace saying I’ve got a mouth full of crabs. Leslie notices that the men on her tribe get, err, crabby, when they don’t have enough to eat. James speaks some too about this.

Peih-Gee thinks that Dave is exerting himself too much at camp. He simply returns the help by just mocking her and thinking that he has to use energy in order to give it later. Frosti questions whether or not Ashley was the right choice to vote out the previous night since Dave isn’t helping others or seems to be appreciative of the fact that he’s still in the game.

We then get to the reward challenge. The challenge is a physical one and is split into men versus women in each round. The women go first and alternate between the men. With only the women winning on Zhan Hu and only the men winning on Fei Long (largely due to James’s strength), it is Zhan Hu that wins the challenge with three points. They kidnap Leslie to be on their tribe for now.

Leslie thinks that this other tribe has strong morale and has a lot going for them. I can’t tell whether or not the tribes would put on a fake persona in front of the others or not. Leslie thinks that she fits in better with this tribe.

On the other tribe, Jean-Robert and James have a secret conversation, unaware that both Courtney and Todd are listening to them. As a result of this, Todd wants to get rid of both of them in the end. But will it happen as soon as they were wanting to?

Leslie opens the clue to an idol and gives it to Jamie in the end. She can’t find the idol and thinks that it is right in front of her face and can’t find it. Of course, you have to see if you can sneak where all of the cameras are looking at as they are giving it away. But will you be there when they do it?

We then get to the immunity challenge. I remember this. As Jay Exci would say, EPIC FAIL! That’s how I feel about Courtney’s performance in this challenge. Why was she chosen as a chopper? It seems like she is putting little to no effort in it. Despite the early setbacks, her tribe does do better in the end than it would otherwise seem at first. But they still lose. Zhan Hu finally wins immunity and Fei Long is sent to tribal council for the first time.

Courtney talks about the loss as she lost two hands and possibly a shoulder (roll credits). Jean-Robert thinks that a woman will be voted off next due to their poor performance at the challenge. While it was Courtney who did the worst at the challenge, Leslie remains a possibility as well. Leslie explains that there are three Christians on the other tribe. They think that she gave too much information to the other tribe, such as telling them that Aaron in the leader, something that could eventually seal his fate. Leslie wants to vote out Jean-Robert. But they think that Jean-Robert is better at challenges.

Todd is worried that some people will get rid of him. Aaron is convinced that Leslie has friends on the other tribe. So don’t you disrespect him little man. There is a lot of worry about Leslie’s connection due to being kidnapped by the other tribe and Todd isn’t sure what to do.

We get to tribal council next. Jean-Robert mentions that they have two of the weakest girls in the game. I think that he means women. Courtney is worried that she will be put in where she’s the least weak in the challenges. Leslie thinks that the other tribe has a strong heart. I think that she saw a different tribe then a lot of the rest of us keep seeing. Not much can be gathered from the tribal council. When the votes are cast, Courtney and Leslie vote for Jean-Robert while Jean-Robert, Todd, Amanda, Aaron, Denise, and James all vote for Leslie and she is voted out of the game as a result.

On the next Survivor, Courtney and Jean-Robert continue to have issues with each other, Sherea blows her cool, and another fun challenge looks like it will happen in the game as they learn more about the Art of War as in the book or something like it.

Total confessional count: James- 2, Amanda- 2, Courtney- 4, Todd- 7, Jamie- 7, Peih-Gee- 6, Denise- 1, Aaron- 4, Frosti- 3, Jean-Robert- 2, Leslie- 13, Dave- 7, Sherea- 1, Erik- 1.

New confessionals this episode: Erik- 0, James- 1, Amanda- 0, Courtney- 1, Todd- 2, Jamie- 2, Peih-Gee- 2, Denise- 0, Aaron- 1, Frosti- 1, Jean-Robert- 0, Leslie- 6, Dave- 1, Sherea- 0.

I like Leslie as a contestant and feel that she made a good mark on the game despite her short time in it in the end. I give her about maybe a 60% chance of returning to the game in future seasons. I also plan to share more about missionaries in two new posts for reasons I’ll explain then. I do like most Christian players when they seem to represent it right and even when they struggle. With not much else to say in this post, I will let you go. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

The Floater Stereotype

Often in Survivor, there is a contestant who is known as a floater and they suffer a stereotype about it as a result. They are often more derided and mentioned far more often in Big Brother than they are on this show. But they do exist and have a variety of ways of success at times.

For those who don’t know about it, floater is the term of someone who tries to just get to the end in some way by more or less taking a step back from the game and letting the bigger targets take each other out. This can get someone a win or at least very far. It can also easily backfire, getting a person out pretty quickly over the perceived idea that they aren’t connecting to anyone.

The first Survivor contestant to win with this strategy was Vecepia in Survivor: Marquesas. She didn’t seem like she was doing that much to others that were watching the show (or at least me) weren’t that impressed by her victory at the time. Such is the reason why floaters tend to not be liked as much. But she proved that they can be a threat to the game. There are other floaters who have won as well, but I can’t think of them right now.

There isn’t much else to say about the floater stereotype so I will end this post with this paragraph. I wish that the show would be returning soon, but that is not the case this year as Survivor wants to do at least four more seasons, but has yet to start filming the next one (as far as I know). But at least you can have this blog as a constant part of your life in the meantime and hopefully I can write good posts in time when I normally want to and like to do them. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
