Episode 1.3b

I’m not entirely sure where all in this blog I will talk about this, but if any blog that is vacated from a day of the week like Madam Secretary’s blog was on Tuesdays and I wind up doing my TV blog then, I will have to delay this season’s old posts as a result. The same would be potentially true of any day of the week potentially, although some remain occupied for now, some even regardless of whether or not there are rolls for it as it couldn’t be vacated at all. I’ll try to keep my updates in my new season’s blog posts instead of anywhere else.

Movie update: On Saturday, I watched Downton Abbey with commentary. I replaced it with Decker Family DVD. On Sunday afternoon, I watched The Last Crusade. I replaced that with The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. On Sunday night, I watched National Treasure. I replaced it with Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I did not see a movie on Monday, Tuesday, or Friday.

It was on Saturday, 8-27-2022 that this episode was “rolled” and I had to update my blog on The Good Wife which freed it from Friday updates to instead keep it rotating around with Saturdays for a while. I will tell you more about the schedule and the changes with it. I’ll get into that towards the end of this post and you’ll know what I mean.

We begin with Kelly forgetting where she is all the time. Sean talks about how there isn’t much to fish out there. I’m surprised that his super pole isn’t doing anything. The women go out fishing and talk about voting out Rudy. Sue thinks that Stacey is the weakest and wants to target her. Sue won’t talk about this with Stacey which Stacey immediately realizes means that she is the target of Sue.

The Pagong tribe looks for tapioca, which was highly sought after, but only in this season. What’s so great about tapioca? And is this the only place out of all of them to have it? They all have fun getting dirty in the mud volcano.

Back at Tagi, Dirk is seen reading the bible. He talks about this and other biblical stuff to the rest of his tribe. They are more annoyed by this. Dirk talks about being a virgin. Kelly isn’t one. Dirk is annoyed that Richard and other gays are always talking about their homosexuality. He doesn’t see that he is also a bit too preachy himself. Of course, it is ironic that both Christians and gays are too preachy about their ways. Jeff talks some about the upcoming challenge. This is the Jeff that I like. I don’t like him giving these confessionals like he’s a contestant.

Both tribes try to figure out what their treemail means. They arrive at the sand spit. Why is it called that anyways? It isn’t something that they spit. This challenge is for reward. Jeff wants everyone on the tribes to have hands on the chest. Um, what? Is that really appropriate? Anyways, it is Tagi that wins. I wonder what the treasure in the chest is. Perhaps boobs?

Richard goes out fishing with the reward. Sean is still convinced that his super pole is what works better. Where did he even get it from anyways? He would have had to have made it there, right? I wonder if one would interview Sean today if he would still be convinced of the effectiveness of super pole that we have never not seen once work. Richard, meanwhile, spears a lot of fish. He thinks that he will move up in the tribe as a result.

Somehow, the Pagong tribe hears that the other tribe is good at catching fish. Greg talks about how he has a way to catch rats. Maybe there are a bunch of snakes on this tribe. This tribe eats the rats. It does seem like everyone on the tribe eats it at some point. While rats are good, Gervase thinks that they would like fish better.

The Tagi tribe is seen with a telegram treemail. They also have to make a stretcher. And they have to figure out who their lightest tribe member is. They test the challenge out. Pagong also looks at the same treemail and also prepares for the challenge.

At the challenge, Jeff talks to the tribes about the upcoming challenge. The tribes have to get to the tribe member that needs to be rescued and then take them to the first aid tent. Pagong wins the challenge at hand. They get a victory walk to their hanging idol on Bird Island.

Preparing for tribal council, the people have their various ideas. People rejected Richard’s thoughts of talking with the group in preparation for the tribal council. It seems like it could be a choice between Rudy or Stacey with Stacey even thinking that she’s in danger.

At tribal council, there is a storm brewing. Jeff brings out a conch shell for people to use to talk. Richard says that he is providing for the tribe by giving them fish. Sean is comfortable with his tribe. Sue thinks that Richard’s fish catching is good for now, but could be better later. Jeff doesn’t let there be much of a tribal council as he lets Stacey talk for a bit before getting to the vote.

Kelly and Stacey vote for Rudy. The rest of the tribe, Dirk, Rudy, Richard, Sue, and Sean all vote for Stacey. I see why Jeff wants to get this done and over with since there is a lot of rain pouring down. Stacey claims that people switched their votes as her torch, already out, is snuffed again. The tribe can wait there until the rain stops. And Stacey becomes the first person to give an exit confessional during the day, that is, the next day after this storm.

Total confessional count: Kelly- 9, Richard- 15, Sue- 7, Colleen- 5, Jenna- 6, Joel- 4, Dirk- 4, Ramona- 6, Gervase- 10, Greg- 5, Gretchen- 9, Sean- 8, Stacey- 7, Rudy- 8.

New confessionals this episode: Rudy- 2, Kelly- 5, Richard- 6, Sue- 5, Colleen- 2, Jenna- 5, Joel- 2, Dirk- 3, Ramona- 0, Gervase- 5, Greg- 2, Gretchen- 3, Sean- 2, Stacey- 4.

For those who don’t know this already, Stacey had gained infamy in the Survivor community for suing the show, saying that producers convinced people to vote her out instead of others. This was settled out of court. I think that she was trying to make a quick buck. She’s the reason, after all, that contestants get paid for appearing on the reunion show.

She probably realized very easily that once Mark Burnett countersued her for up to 5 million dollars that she was in over her head and this lawsuit wasn’t worth it. And the reason that she was voted out makes sense. I don’t think that she reacted well to being blindsided.

All of this is a very long way of saying that if there is a list of contestants who are banned from ever appearing on the show again, she would have been the very first person added to this list. I don’t think that she will ever reappear on the show and give her about a 15% chance of returning.

Now in the off chance that I know of changes to a month’s planned blogging schedule before that month starts, I will share the revised schedule in the blog, which is what this previous section is. I hope to get updated on the calendars until January or until I know when Survivor 44 starts. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

Episode 1.2b

There was once a time where I put reviews from the Survivor seasons of Borneo and Palau at tv.com. Only there is no more tv.com. The site is gone along with anything on it. Thus, I plan to write new review posts on imbd where I do reviews of Survivor episodes, which will come during the off season. It is sad and not at all shocking to me that I haven’t gotten any done yet thus far. I hope that I can do that either this month or the next. Otherwise, I’ll have to wait until January.

Let’s get to the challenges that start with n, currently the only other thing that I can think of relating to the a or an article link that I had from a while back starting in Gabon, I think, or potentially China. I do not yet know what challenge links would logically come next in this season’s blog posts so don’t be surprised if I skip it for a bit until it can work out again.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/New_School

In this challenge, contestants must swim out to get a net of 14 fish puzzle pieces, untie the pieces, hang them on hooks, carry the log with the hooks to the puzzle station, and then solve the puzzle. In one season, the puzzle was in two layers, one stacked on top of each other. In other seasons, the two parts of the puzzle were on two different trays. If this could be done as an individual challenge, it could be done while social distancing.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/New_Tribe_Member

This is also known as Gulliver’s Travels. In it, contestants have to take a dummy of theirs, the new tribe member, and take it across an obstacle course. The dummy was made the first time this appeared. If this were an individual challenge, then this could be done while social distancing, although I’m not sure how or if it could work that way.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Nut_Bucket

This is also known as sack attack. In this challenge, one tribe has to hold up a large net while the other tribe puts coconuts into the nets. If everyone drops the net, their tribe loses the challenge. It could probably not be done while social distancing.

I should post more about the third list of watching things first before I get to anything else. Invader Zim moved up to the second list. I was replaced by 8 Simple Rules. Like 8 Simple Rules, I’m thinking that I will do a YouTube video series of each of them. But unlike Invader Zim, I’m unsure of how much I can see of it unless the third season of 8 Simple Rules is on DVD on blu-ray by now. I will not watch it on steaming under any circumstances, even if the streaming is free.

Movie update: I’m posting the movie update in this season’s blog posts now. I plan to go back to some of the old way of doing it, meaning that it might be ignored a whole lot until I have more time on my hands to watch movies. Anyways, let’s start where I left off in Survivor 42.

Here’s how the list of movies currently stands: Tuesday’s list is Back to the Future part 2, Celtic Woman: Believe, Elf, Invictus, Pot O’ Gold, and Recess: School’s Out. Friday’s list is Air Force One, Baby Geniuses, The Great Race, John Q, Popeye, and Toy Story. Saturday’s list is Downton Abbey, Flight of the Phoenix, Grumpier Old Men, The Little Mermaid, The Pelican Brief, and A River Runs Through it. Sunday afternoon’s list is Bend it Like Beckham, Ghost Town, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Runaway Bride, Space Jam, and A Wrinkle in Time. Sunday night’s list is Bean: the Movie, Despicable Me, The Little Rascals, Rain Man, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and True to the Game. Monday’s list is The Bourne Supremacy, crossover tape, The Fugitive, Nature Documentaries, The Omega Code 2, and The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood.

On Thursday, two days after starting it, I returned to see more of Recess: School’s Out and finished it. I replaced it with Taken. I was not able to see another movie from any of my lists for exactly one week due to family visits when the next Friday rolled around.

On Friday, I watched Toy Story. I replaced it with Toy Story 2. I should tell you that in anticipation of the movie Lightyear which is somehow unrelated to the already existing Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, the YouTube channel CinemaWins started doing any Everything Great about Toy Story series. Here is their video on Toy Story.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFfoBJlQ0bw

On Saturday, I watched The Little Mermaid. I replaced that with Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. I am skipping over other movies in that series this year and only covering that one. On Sunday, I did not watch a movie from either list, but was able to return to theaters finally to see a movie for a blog of mine as that is often the only reason why I see movies in theaters or used to. On Monday, I chose not to watch a movie and may do this a lot even with extra time on my hand so I can get caught up on other things that I have to do even if I do have time for movies. On Tuesday, I watched Elf. I replaced that with Fireproof. Now that I’ve seen that, I won’t try much or hardly for seeing things from that list unless it winds up as the first in line.

On Friday, I watched John Q. I replaced that with Lilo and Stitch. Now the next day, I had a bit of an issue that I’ll get to. But I have a work around that makes everything okay in the end. I can only hope that the issue gets resolved.

On Saturday, I wanted to and planned to watch Madagascar 3. But I couldn’t find where it was. I had moved it somewhere in preparation for the family visits. Or someone else did. I don’t know where it is now as a result. So I watched the first Madagascar and will replace it with the 2nd one. On Sunday afternoon, I watched Ghost Town, one of only two choices so old, it was added to my list of things to watch back in 2020. I replaced it with A Few Good Men. On Sunday night, I watched The Tonys instead of any movie. I am hoping that I can see movies from this list pretty soon. Of course, half of the options on the Sunday afternoon list were added in 2021 and only have to be seen once in order to be taken off the list and replaced. Neither Sunday list is watched much. That should change soon for one of them. I did not watch a movie either Monday or Tuesday.

On Friday, I watched Lilo and Stitch. I replaced that with Minions. I will probably be missing a lot of time and chances to watch movies soon depending on what is going on in life. I could be watching some from the scab lists that I have, but if I did have that free time, I’d probably want to spend it getting caught up on shows on my laptop first before I did anything else.

On Saturday, I watched The Pelican Brief. I replaced that with Oliver and Company. On Sunday afternoon which was Father’s Day, I watched Courageous instead of anything from the list of things to watch on that day. On Sunday night, I watched Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. I replaced that with Attack of the Clones. I hadn’t finished that movie by Monday so I was still finishing that on Monday. I didn’t have time for a movie on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon due to family visits.

On Sunday night, I had the chance to at least start a movie, although I was bogged down in a lot of other things to do potentially. Plus, I’m watching both the Star Wars and Despicable Me series in a foreign language with English subtitles. Thus, I started Attack of the Clones that day. I did not return to it until Tuesday, with no movies from either Monday or Tuesday lists being watched. I finished the movie on Wednesday. On Friday, I watched Baby Geniuses. I replaced that with Déjà Vu. On Saturday, I watched Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. I replaced it with the hopefully will be found 3rd Madagascar film. It turns out that I watched the wrong thing by mistake so this will affect other choices for a bit. On Sunday afternoon, I watched The Temple of Doom. I replaced that with Raiders of the Lost Ark.

On Sunday night, I watched Despicable Me. I replaced that with Despicable Me 2. On Monday, I watched The Omega Code 2. I replaced that with Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. On Tuesday, I didn’t watch a movie. On Friday, I watched Toy Story 2. I replaced that with the third Toy Story. As I did earlier in this blog post, I am sharing the video called Everything Great about Toy Story 2.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQlF5W986_c

On Saturday, I watched Oliver and Company. I replaced it with Pleasantville. It was Oliver and Company that I was supposed to watch last week. On Sunday afternoon, I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark. I replaced it with The Last Crusade.

On Sunday night, I watched part of Revenge of the Sith. I replaced it with Rogue One despite the fact that there is an r choice on the list right now. This will be straightened out soon enough. I finished that movie on Monday. I wasn’t able to see much of it on Sunday so that I could watch a live stream of the mass event of the LCMS National Youth Gathering. I messed up potentially seeing any of the stream on Monday, so I didn’t watch it then. On Tuesday, I chose not to watch a movie. On Friday, I watched a movie that I borrowed from the library instead of one from the list of things to watch on Friday.

On Saturday, I watched Flight of the Phoenix. I replaced that with Enchanted. On Sunday afternoon, I had other plans for lunch so I didn’t watch a movie then. Expect this to happen again a lot as I may be working some over the weekends which would conflict with a Sunday afternoon movie.

On Sunday night, I watched Rogue One. I replaced that with A New Hope. On Monday, I watched nothing. I am doing this so that I’m like Ozzy in that one challenge in Micronesia where he helped get all of the coconuts or whatever it was towards the end so it would be easier for all of the contestants to finish it. I am hoping that if I’m caught up enough on tapes, I can get caught up more on other things as well. I went from being within one roll of finishing the tapes until having way too much to see of that always. And I was watching shows on my laptop anyways. On Tuesday, I watched no movies again. On Wednesday, I watched yet another movie borrowed from the library. This might be a regular thing soon. On Friday, I watched Air Force One. I replaced that with Adventures in Babysitting.

On Saturday, I watched Downton Abbey. I replaced that with nothing so I can effectively keep it on the list for now so that I can see it again with commentary. On Sunday afternoon, I watched nothing as I was busy at a different church than usual. Sunday night, I watched a home video instead of something that is on any of the lists.

On Monday, I watched The Bourne Supremacy. I replaced that with The Bourne Ultimatum. On Tuesday, I watched nothing in terms of movies. On Friday, I watched nothing in terms of movies. I have no idea how many times I will keep doing this.

On Saturday, I finally watched Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. My mother found where I hid it in advance of my niblings coming and I forgot where it was. But it makes sense where it was found since I was doing other things that involved putting it in this strange place. Anyways, it remains on the list for me to watch again with commentary. On Sunday afternoon, I was busy working a job that I plan to vlog about. I did the same thing that previous day when I could watch a movie. On Sunday night, while I did have the time for a movie, I decided that it wasn’t a good idea and I was better off not seeing one so I could ensure that I stick with Monday as a lead-out day for now.

On Monday, I watched The Bourne Ultimatum. I replaced that with The Bourne Legacy. On Tuesday, I did not watch a movie per usual reasons. On Friday, I also did not watch a movie again. There’s not too much else to say about that just yet.

On Saturday, I watched A River Runs Through it. I replaced it with The Sound of Music, just not the movie version that you’re thinking of, but a recording of a play that cousins of mine were in. I will not be watching A River Runs Through it again. It didn’t seem to offer that much. On Sunday afternoon, I watched Space Jam. I replaced it with Vantage Point. On Sunday night, I watched A New Hope. It was replaced with The Empire Strikes Back. While I started that move on Sunday night, I paused it at one point and did not get back to it until Wednesday, meaning no movie on Monday or Tuesday. I ended up finishing it on Thursday. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon, I was far too busy with family visits to see any movies at the time.

On Sunday night, I finally returned to seeing movies. I watched Rain Man and replaced it with National Treasure. On Monday, I was still finishing Rain Man so no movie on Monday. I did not watch a movie on Tuesday. On Friday, I watched nothing, although I could have potentially.

On Saturday, August 20th of 2022, I finally rolled a Survivor episode legitimately. I didn’t just decide to watch one, counting it as a roll when it actually wasn’t. Now I am changing things for just a bit so that the roll might not take place on the day I say it does, but will count it on that day simply because it is easier for me to be prepared. I don’t know how long I will do that. A Saturday roll does mess me up a bit since that’s when the weekly updates of my TV blog are and this will mean having to update my blog on Madam Secretary instead. But this shouldn’t be too much of an issue as it means more opportunities for working on different blogs.

We begin with Stacey talking about being hungry. Rudy and others talked about eating rats. Maybe the snake will eat the rat? The people try to make fishing seem more exciting than it is. Richard said that he voted out Stacey at the last tribal council, but I think that merely voting for someone is different than voting someone out since she is still in the game for now. Rudy thinks that Stacey is going to learn a lesson pretty soon in the future.

Meanwhile, on Pagong, everyone talks about B. B. and his work ethic. Some like it at times while also thinking that he would be the first person voted out if they lose. Back at Tagi, Rudy talks about making food. Richard doesn’t want to talk about being gay to Rudy. Some talk about Richard’s homosexuality and even some terms about it. Rudy thinks that if people listen to Richard, they will make it far in the game. He also states that he likes Richard, but not in a homosexual way. He does some of this not homosexual stuff by rubbing Richard’s back with lotion.

Going back to Pagong, Ramona isn’t doing well on her tribe as she gets sick easily and can’t even eat some of the food that they have. She is lying around a lot. Greg is the only person who seems to like B. B. It seems that B. B. doesn’t like anyone. The next day, it seems that Greg and Colleen were sneaking off by themselves. They mention having a friendship. People don’t know where they are hiding. Maybe they are looking for a hidden immunity idol and advantages? That night, they play the stranded game or something with a similar name. Greg asks how they would describe their favorite love making position as a food. Is that even possible to describe?

B. B. talks to other people and get them to move something with the whole tribe having to take part in this and this hurts Jenna for a moment. He is still annoying most of them. Sean on Tagi is still obsessed with his super pole invention that Sue points out didn’t catch anything. She can’t even convince him that it was a waste of time even though he didn’t catch anything. He thinks the area is overfished. But do people typically stay there and thus fish there? B. B. still annoys people when he washes his shirt in the canteen that they were wanting to make rice in.

The tribes learn of the upcoming challenge and eating gross food. Ramona actually says that she will eat anything since this is for immunity. It seems that B. B. wants to leave with everyone wanting to win. The tribes gather for the challenge. The local delicacy will be served for everyone. They can’t let their living food crawl away. Everyone has to eat it or they will lose immunity for their tribe. Gervase seems to have the most trouble with it as everyone else eats it. But it seems that everyone eats it next, including Gervase. I like how better this is done in later seasons versus this one.

This leads to a tie-breaker round. Tagi picks Gervase. Pagong picks Stacey. Stacey then wins it for her tribe. Sean thinks that Stacey is more accepted in her tribe now as a result. Pagong, meanwhile, now has to walk to tribal council.

Ramona thinks that tribal council is like walking to your maker. She is one of the targets, but so is B. B. He thinks that if either he or Gretchen goes, that would be like dropping an atomic bomb. Jeff gets the tribe to grab a torch. I thought that was Jennet Isabella’s job. Hush, hush. Quietly now. He sleeps. The torch of Sonja is still there at tribal council. I wonder why this isn’t still done. Was it just one of those corny things that they didn’t want to keep doing like the gong?

At tribal council, there isn’t much conversation going on. Not everyone is shown talking. It is probably too much of a foregone conclusion and it seems to be one of the shortest ones that we ever see. We then get to the vote. Greg and B. B. vote for Ramona. The rest of the tribe of Ramona, Colleen, Gervase, Jenna, Gretchen, and Joel vote off B. B. and he is voted out of the game as a result. It is interesting that they don’t allow goodbyes like hugs and departures like they do now. Maybe they aren’t supposed to do that now? I still have no idea what he means by “the decision is final” 42 seasons later. How could the decision not be final after certain votes are cast?

On the next Survivor, Dirk seems to annoy people with his Christian beliefs and Pagong is ready to eat rats. Those people are snakes, aren’t they? We better warn the badgers so that they know to stay away. And where are the mushrooms? Or do we only care about tapioca?

Total confessional count: Dirk- 1, Ramona- 6, Gervase- 5, Greg- 3, Gretchen- 6, Sean- 6, Stacey- 3, Rudy- 6, B. B.- 9, Kelly- 4, Richard- 9, Sue- 2, Colleen- 3, Jenna- 1, Joel- 2.

New confessionals this episode: Joel- 2, Dirk- 0, Ramona- 4, Gervase- 5, Greg- 3, Gretchen- 5, Sean- 5, Stacey- 2, Rudy- 3, B. B.- 7, Kelly- 1, Richard- 4, Sue- 1, Colleen- 3, Jenna- 1.

As I do with all past seasons, I now mention what I feel are the old player’s chances are of returning to the game again, the old player, meaning, whoever was voted out in that episode or otherwise not in the game anymore. There’s not much of a point to this one since B. B. is dead and thus has a 0% chance of returning to the game in the future.

A lot can change with my blogs. I didn’t even tell the readers of my Madam Secretary blog why there was a post of it on Saturday instead of my TV blog. This schedule is only accurate if I do not roll an old Survivor episode on Saturday and I might plan to watch one then which would further change a whole lot of what is going on. With Tuesdays now having the chance of weekly posts for my TV blog, then I should warn you in case you are somehow only here for my Borneo posts that if that does happen, you will not see this season’s posts again until at least part of that day of the week is open some of the month as in I can share it with other blogs again. You don’t know what all can change and neither do I. But I’ll work through the changes and hope that you keep up with the blog regardless of when it is published and if it is an old season or not. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

The Veto Armlet

It may seem weird to you how obsessed I am with part of Survivor that has only been done thus far in the international version of the show. Of course, a lot of twists of Survivor were in international versions before it appeared in this one. Were it not for the Swedish version of Survivor, there would not even be an American Survivor. While I do not fully understand how the veto armlet works and would not know how it would work in the American version or even if it would work at all, I’m still thinking that it might be a good twist to try out once.

You see, this twist is introduced sometime during the season and whoever is forced to wear it cannot vote at tribal council. It would be known to the other players who has this misfortune. I also think that the person who wears it can decide who has to wear it next, but probably can’t give it back to the player who gave it to them. I have no idea who is stuck wearing it first or why. I also don’t know when they would get rid of it from the game. It is possible that if the wearer of it is voted out, then it is removed from the game, but have no idea how it works as I haven’t seen any foreign season of Survivor that have included this twist (or any that haven’t for that matter).

Why do I think that it should be included in the American season of Survivor? Well, there are different reasons why I think it would work. For instance, since Ghost Island, it has been made quite clear that producers of the new Survivor want to take player’s votes away whenever possible. While the veto armlet is known to the other players and thus any potential non-votes would be known, it would be nice if the players had more control over this instead of it being them against the twist. It would be the same sort of thing that they want from tribal council.

It also would work better than some other twists that they could do. Imagine instead of the do or die, the players learn that the first person out of the challenge will suffer a penalty to be revealed later. And they also learn that unlike the do or die, they must compete in the challenge and cannot sit out. It would then be learned at maybe tribal council that whoever lost first cannot vote.

This would fit in the theme with the other part of the twist where it is decided again at tribal council who gets the armlet next and then can’t vote as a result. While tribal council may seem like too late to learn about this, it might be the best and only time since we all know that flashy tribal councils are a thing that producers like. It could also make sure that players don’t piss off the wrong person since they might be able to then prevent that person from voting as a result.

It would only seem to work at the merge or individual stage of the game. I don’t think that there is too much else to ponder about this right now. Maybe it would work or maybe it wouldn’t. We wouldn’t know for sure unless they try it in the game.

That’s all that I can think about for this post of this blog. I am hoping that I can get a post done of this blog on and old season’s episode pretty soon. It is also possible that I might get a legit roll for once instead of just deciding to watch an old episode as if I rolled for it. While I know that the odds of me randomly getting to see an episode of this show is a literal shot in the dark, it can happen and hopefully will, especially if I am to see any of Blood versus Water again. I’ll keep you updated as I can. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

Changes with Survivor’s Edit

This is the weirdest hiatus yet in terms of this blog as once again I wasn’t able to do a post of this blog on Wednesday. Why wasn’t I? It was quite simple. I had absolutely no time to write a post, much less publish it. If I had one written in advance, it would have been a different story. But that was not the case. I also need the time to listen to something to explain a change we know about that can hopefully be done before Survivor returns for the future. Now on to the post.

You may notice something different with how they present Survivor in the newer seasons. It might have happened a bit more than just since Survivor has returned after the pandemic. But how each episode has been edited has changed versus how it was.

How were they edited before versus now? It seemed as if the edit back then could be put into the standard five acts: 1- intro/post tribal council/tribe life, 2- reward challenge/lead up into it, 3- some of the reward/some of the reward losers, 4- set up to immunity challenge/immunity challenge, 5- set up to tribal council/tribal council.

That’s not so much what happens anymore. Nowadays, we can get things like this: 1- everything before the reward challenge, if it is even seen, 2- reward challenge or twist tasks/tribe life, 3- more tribe life/set up to immunity challenge/immunity challenge, 4- set up to tribal council/more twist tasks, 5- tribal council. And the segments to some of the things are clearly longer than they were as a result.

Why is Survivor doing this? Why are the edits different? It is probably just so that it isn’t too predictable an edit and format. You can read through my posts on current seasons dating back to Philippines when I was starting to do this blog what I’d consider normally and compare it with how formats to some of the blogs and recaps are done now. You’d see how the edits are different. You’d see how formats are not the same. And while I don’t have any issues with this one way or the other, it is still worth doing a blog post about so that people know some of the differences.

I might be back to doing a blog post of this blog on both Sundays and Wednesdays now for the near future until I mess up without a post of this blog done or a Sunday will have a blog that is not this one which will happen at some point. We’ll see what all will happen. It is weird that I’ve missed so many posts of blogs, but only this blog. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

Why’d You Have to Go and Make Things so Complicated?

As we gear up for a new, upcoming season of Survivor, we have to wonder just how complicated things will be in the end. We got more twists and turns in the modern Survivor than a lot of roller coasters have most of the time. This is what Survivor is now. Should it really be this complicated?

With Survivor doing all sorts of things to become crazy and entertaining in ways never seen before, it is difficult to simply play a game anymore as simple then as it is now. While people can still play an under the radar game, not have idols or advantages, and can still win, the complicated game can overshadow that. But that’s not what all is going on for sure.

What is known is that some game play is harder. You don’t always know what is going on. You don’t even know if everyone will be able to vote. You can’t rely on simple things in this game anymore. And this is how producers like Jeff (or maybe just him and not everyone) want the show to be. They want there to be complicated things going on all the time.

Why is it this way? Well, it might be hard to say for sure, but can be easy to guess actually. The people who do Survivor don’t want the game to be easy. They want it to be complicated so that players don’t know what to expect or see coming. They want fans to be talking about it, even if bloggers tend to always complain about such strange new twists. And they don’t want this to be predictable.

There’s not much else to say. I have finally seen the first ad for the new Survivor season. I’ll have to check when the cast is released, if it hasn’t been already. I think that I should be working more and harder on some aspects of this blog to make sure that posts are ready in time. You might also have to check out this other site I haven’t used in a while to see something that you wouldn’t see anywhere else. I can only hope that I get two more posts on old seasons done soon as in this month. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
