The Ten Dumbest Survivor Tribes

Survivor is known for various dumb moves that end up happening in the game. Most of them are done by individuals acting alone. Others are dumb twists or challenges that appear in the game. But of all of the dumb things that have happened in Survivor, something that might be interesting to note is how there are some tribes that as a group made dumb decisions that affected the game. I am going to mention the ten dumbest of these tribes. In order to be on this list, the tribe must have done something very dumb. Good tribes cannot be chosen unless they somehow made a bad move like this. Bad tribes cannot be chosen unless their stupidity ultimately contributed to them being bad. Matsing, for example, was not a dumb tribe, although they were pretty bad unless you count the two remaining members of the group. I will list honorable mentions if needed. When I did this list, I could only think of four that would come close to being part of the ten but not actually make the final list. I will mention them in chronological order. Sook Jai was mean to Shii Ann and is the reason she planned on switching tribes. But I'm not sure that would work since it mostly backfired on Shii Ann and Sook Jai was probably screwed anyways. The original Aitutaki from Cook Islands was pretty stupid the way they threw a challenge, got messed up after the tribe dissolve, and become the only tribe in the show's history to not have a single member on the jury. But since it is hard to calculate that tribe considering how there are three different versions of it and nobody remembers the original that well, I don't think that it's worthy of being included on the list of dumb tribes. Then the next one to consider is very hard to classify. It's actually a tie between two different tribes who thought that they were at the merge feast of the season. There was a hidden immunity idol there and not one player present wanted to keep the potential power and put a target on their back. So they all decided to through it into the sea. I'm referring to the players from Survivor: Gabon. The members of Kota and Fang (especially Marcus, who would get eliminated that same episode) made a dumb move. But since it didn't seem to affect the whole tribe(s) badly, I don't think that I will include it. The only other tribe that could be considered for the list but is unworthy of being on it is Zapatera. They threw a challenge and was ultimately all voted out due to the loss. But they were getting rid of a poison by the name of Russell Hantz. Trust me, at least one other tribe (Bikal) will tell you how glad they were to get rid of a Hantz. The favorites tribe from Caramoan hardly counts as a dumb tribe considering how they dominated throughout much of the game (tribe swap aside). But since I've mentioned those tribes that aren't worthy of being on the list, I will mention those ten tribes in order of the tenth dumbest to the all-time dumbest tribe. I hope that you enjoy this list.

#10 Lopevi- This tribe from Vanuatu has never had a returning player. In fact, nobody from this tribe has even been asked back for another season. Originally all men, this tribe made dumb decisions that men are known for. After a tribe swap, they had two women and all the rest of them were still men. That's when the men on the other tribe mysteriously got voted out. After a tribe council where one wasn't voted out, this tribe went to tribal council themselves. Not thinking that a gender war would still happen in a season that started as battle of the sexes, they voted out a man from their tribe and not a woman. That makes them one of the few tribes to never vote out a woman from their tribe. But do you know what happened next? Men started getting voted out. If it weren't for one man avoiding becoming the target, then they'd rank much higher on this list.

#9 Mogo Mogo- This tribe from All-Stars was doing pretty good when the game started. They avoided tribal council for a very long time (it was a record then, I believe, although two players from this season would set a record of longest time without going to tribal council, if you don't count the fact that they went to the first two tribal councils) and seemed to fall apart after a different tribe was dissolved. An unexpected tribe swap gave them Amber while keeping everyone else on their tribe. So, when they lost the immunity challenge, you'd think that they'd vote out Amber. It's such an easy vote, right? Well, because of her boyfriend's tampering, she ended up not only staying on their tribe as they voted out someone else, she ended up winning the game that season, thanks a lot to their own jury votes. So they had the perfect chance to get rid of her and they blew it. Because of that, she ended up winning. And that is why they are pretty dumb, even if they were Chapera when they made that decision.

#8 Samburu- This tribe from Africa was doing pretty well in the first place. But things quickly fell apart for them. Two conflicting alliances would start the cause of this tribe's demise. It slowly got worse and worse for them. They lost players after the very first tribe swap of the series due to reasons that were largely their own fault. After the merge, they had a chance to even things out and get on top, but they failed at that as well. And that's when they just kept losing every member until none of them were left. They failed to stay together many times when opportunity proved that they could stay together. And that's why they are on this list of dumb tribes.

#7 Yasur- Another tribe from Vanuatu ends up on this list. It's only fitting considering how they failed to do something that Mogo Mogo should have done. Only they had more than one opportunity to do it and the person they let slip by was more likely to win if they let him get to the end. The women's alliance from this season was going strong and had only one man left to eliminate to ensure themselves the final six. But instead of doing that, they turned on each other and ultimately let this man coast to the end of the game where he ended up winning instead of any of them. They could have gotten rid of him at any moment he didn't have immunity, but they didn't. That's why they belong here and definitely higher (or lower) than Lopevi.

#6 Savaii- This tribe from South Pacific could have done much better than they did. They had one of the strongest players in the game on their tribe. They also had another member on their tribe whom nobody liked that much. They never voted him out, but they did treat him like crap and tried to vote him out over and over again. He could have stayed with them if they had treated him better. But, instead of me thinking that the player who flopped was dumb, I think that the tribe that caused him to flop was dumb. They were so dumb and mad at him for flopping when they merged at even numbers. But they brought this disaster on themselves.

#5 Timbira- This tribe from Tocantins had things going very well for them. They had six members at the merge, compared to the other tribe's four. And the other tribe lost a member due to a medical evacuation. Instead of sticking together, they fell apart. The elimination of the whole tribe was more just the way it happened to be than an actual planned elimination of all these other players. But they were still eliminated in a way that caused them to not be at the final tribal council when they could have stuck together in any way throughout the season instead. The way their alliance fell apart, if they even had one in the first place, was pretty dumb.

#4 Heroes- This tribe from the twentieth season should have been the tribe that many people were rooting for. In fact, some people don't like the season because this tribe failed so badly. Spoilers said that they would fail apart and the spoilers were right. But most of us probably didn't know just how bad they would dig their own grave. Some people may think that this was an individual decision, which it kind of was. But since all the heroes were on board with it, they pretty much got to the bad part of their demise on their own. After JT gave up the hidden immunity idol to the other tribe, he got voted out due in part, mostly, to the idol he gave away to the other tribe. And they another hero flipped on their alliance and there weren't many people left to get rid of the others. But it was no surprise that they were all voted out of the game. It's true what Darth Helmet said in the movie Spaceballs. "Evil will always defeat good, because good is dumb."

#3 Galu- This tribe from Samoa takes what Timbira did and makes it look much better. They had an eight to four advantage at the merge. But then they crumbled and were voted out one by one. Losing their leader earlier in the game might have helped contribute to their demise. But they also treated a member of their like shit and that never turns out well for their tribe. It only takes one member to mess up everything that you have going for you. Instead of sticking together and easily getting rid of the last members of the other tribe, they voted out each other with the help of the other tribe. By the time they realized that they were no longer in power, it was far too late. Only one member was left to control his part of the game, but he lost the final immunity challenge and became the last person voted out of the game.

#2 Pagong- For a very long time, this was the dumbest tribe in the show's history. It coined a term that described other tribes like them, getting eliminated one by one after the merge. Maybe they owe their mistakes to being a tribe from the very first season before any alliances were a huge part of the game and a known part of game play that should be done to help win the game. But they still shouldn't have failed as horribly as they did. Not one person in their tribe voted together in the first tribal council after the merge. They soon realized that the other tribe was slowly getting rid of them. But they seemed pretty ineffective at how the game would end up working. And they would remain the dumbest tribe in Survivor history for many seasons, until someone came along and stole first place from them.

#1 Manono- The dumbest tribe in Survivor history also caused the most shocking moment in Survivor history. Were it not for their decision in the twenty-fourth season, I might not even have this Survivor blog. If you look back, my very first post was based on what they did. While they are not the only tribe to do what they did, they were the only tribe to do it for no good reason. They could have done so much better were it not for the meddling of one Colton Cumbie. Based on an unaired incident when Bill threw his hidden immunity idol into the sea for reasons unknown, Colton developed an intense hatred for this person. After winning an immunity challenge, Colton convinced his tribe to give up the win just to vote him out. Because Bill thought that someone else was on the chopping block, he agreed to the dumb plan. It might just be the dumbest move in Survivor history. But at least it made the season so memorable. I can't think of anything dumber than a tribe giving up their immunity to another tribe. But they made this move and wins the award for dumbest tribe in the show's history. I hope that their record is never stolen from them. I don't want to even see how that was possible. If you have your own list, feel free to post it in the comments that I keep referring to that nobody has ever used, except once. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
