Survivor: China- A Look Back

Well, I’ve had this season since June, even though I ordered it longer ago than that, so I figured that I should get to it sooner rather than later. I didn’t like how I had to wait so long before I was able to see Gabon for the first time after getting it, but it made sense since I had to finish with Borneo first. I did add a new list of shows to watch with this on it, but I’ll get into that in the next post when I’m talking about the first episode of that season.

What this season was like: This was said to be the first US show to be filmed entirely in China. They must not have counted the reunion show, then, since that clearly wasn’t in China. Throughout the entire premerge part of the game, they made use of a kidnapping twist that was even part of how they did the tribe swap that season.

Why it was good: I liked the fact that the hidden immunity idols were secret this season and it made things just a bit more mysterious and awesome as a result. The blindside of James was epic and remains a huge part of the greatness of Survivor. I also liked how this season introduced Amanda to the Survivor world.

Why it was bad: The cast wasn’t that good to me. I found it weird that someone that seemed as weak as Courtney made it as far as she did. I hate this season’s tribe swap more than any other swap that they ever did on any other season of this show due to how unfair it was for those who got swapped. There were not as many entertaining parts to it as one would normally like. Denise seemed like a terrible player and I’m not sure why some like her.

My overall thoughts: This season is among the lower ranked ones for me as I just couldn’t get behind a lot of what I felt were dull moments and places in it. They did something different which I feel was kind of a good idea, but most of it just fell flat for me.

Current ranking of the season and why: I have this ranked as 33 out of 40 seasons right now. It ranks pretty low as there isn’t much that happens in it that’s long lasting or important in my mind. I do think that it has some saving graces in some areas and isn’t as bad as it could be as a result. But this season does seem pretty weak to me and I can only hope that watching it again can change my opinion of it to something better in the end.

With not much else to say, I will end this post with this paragraph. I do want to like this season more and can only hope that seeing it again will improve my taste of it. I do have friends on facebook from this season so I can only hope that they are not offended by anything that they might see me post here. I think that I like all of them that I can remember that I’m friends with there, if I’m friends with them still now in the present. Posts of this season will be on Fridays, but not all Fridays are available right now so I hope that it doesn’t get too confusing. Other posts will explain. I can only hope that I can keep up the calendar of planned posts for each month. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
