Episode 42.5

While I didn’t quite explain it that well, I might as well explain a bit more as to why the blog was late last week. I could have potentially seen things sooner and gotten the blog post done on time. But it was too late in the day in my mind to get it done on Wednesday like I would have liked to or wanted.

Let’s get to the one time challenges from the eighteenth season. I don’t think that there was too much of a theme to any of these that I could tell. There were interesting ones that I noticed from what I remember. I do need to see videos of these online if they exist. But I highly doubt that I have the time for this ever in the future.

A River, Run Through it (opening challenge from Let’s Get Rid of the Weak Players Before we Even Start): In this challenge, contestants would have to run across a series of hills to a river to get a raft with puzzle pieces planks in it that could then be taken back to shore, untied, taken back to the starting line, and used to build a staircase that would have to be climbed by the whole tribe. At the top, they would have to get a peg through a table maze to release the tribe’s flag to win the challenge. Depending on how they could potentially do this challenge with however few people could work, this could be done while social distancing as a relay race. Its name references a book turned into a movie. That movie is on my list of things to watch.

Dizziness as Usual (reward challenge from You’re Going to Want that Tooth): In this challenge, there would be two players. One would sit on a spinning platform. The other would race across to a platform where they would grab a rope to pull back to the starting line. This would spin the platform that the first contestant is on. Once the platform is done being spun, the person on it would have to cross a balance beam to score a point for the tribe. Once three points are scored, that tribe would win the challenge. This could easily be done while social distancing.

When Pigs Fly (reward challenge from One of Those Coach Moments): In this challenge, tribes would build a barricade around the other tribe’s frames. After 5 minutes of that, the other tribe would then have 10 minutes to have ceramic pigs tossed through this and needed to get the most points. I think that aspects of this could be done while social distancing.

Sandstone Shootout (immunity challenge from One of Those Coach Moments): In this challenge, tribes would have a member shoot down targets of tiles from towers made of sand. This would break apart puzzle pieces and create a reaction to make more of this available. I seem to remember there being some weird aspect of the challenge that I didn’t quite understand and would need to see again to remember how it worked as an eager beaver seemed to make it harder for his tribe to win since it meant that more of the target could never be revealed. Anyways, solve the puzzle and the challenge would be won. I think that an individual version of this could be done while social distancing.

Swiss Cheese Place (reward challenge from It’s Funny When People Cry): In this challenge, contestants would have to get four large puzzle boards, arrange them so that holes in them would reveal seven vowels, and these vowels would be used with seven consonants to solve a four word phrase. It is possible that an individual version of this could be done while social distancing.

Blind to Reason (reward challenge from The Martyr Approach): In this challenge, contestants would have their feet shackled together and have to race through a maze. Once through, they would build a pole to get a sandbag that would then be used to knock over three targets. This could be done while social distancing, I’m pretty sure.

In this blog post from Madam Secretary, I wind up writing about Murphy station, which is mentioned a whole lot throughout the show although I never understood what it was about. I also talk about having multiple lists to watch at once, which I do now currently. I am at three lists and could even get four at some point in time and might.

Movie update: On Friday, I watched Hancock. I didn’t finish that until Saturday. I replaced it with John Q. On Saturday, I still watched a movie: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. I replaced it with The Return of the King. I was still finishing The Two Towers on Sunday afternoon so no movie then. On Sunday night, I watched Copacabana instead of the Grammys. Nothing else that I cared about was new outside of The Rookie. (I’ll get to what I no longer care about soon and what all I watch on Sundays in a near future post.) I replaced that with Bean: the Movie. On Monday, I didn’t watch a movie since I did not have the time for it. On Tuesday, I watched Zorba the Greek. I replaced that with Recess: School’s Out. Note that I will not be watching Zorba the Greek again. I couldn’t make sense of the plot. Was there even any plot in it? I’ve no idea.

Finishing March Madness for the year, the teams for the finals were as follows: North Carolina beat Duke (upset) and Kansas beat Villanova. If North Carolina wins, it will be another upset. With the final game of the championship, it was between North Carolina and Kansas with the winner being Kansas. They overcome a huge deficient to win said game. I guess that I’ll have to see someone who I know wears the Kansas logo when I see them what their thoughts were and if they saw any of this. It is worth noting that in addition to North Carolina, the other teams that I liked that Kansas beat at one point were Texas Southern, Creighton, and Providence.

There is only one link to share in this blog post. This one is the song It’s My Life that I felt was referenced in the name of a challenge that I talked about in the last post. This has reached over 1 billion views on YouTube. I have no idea just how many YouTube videos have that feat and if all of them are music videos. I’m not currently familiar with any video on YouTube that has done that without being a music video. We’ve come a long ways since Charlie Bit Me was the most viewed video.

There’s a show that I’ve kept track of at times called Riverdale which I’ve mentioned before in this and other blogs. I’ve had an on again off again relationship with that show. I was into it originally, but then had issues keeping up with it. I then felt my experience with it was complete before returning to it due to its connections to a new show I was wanting to see that I didn’t ultimately watch more than once. But that time frame, season 4 of Riverdale’s second half, was the best of the show thus far.

Ultimately, things soured pretty fast in season 5. It didn’t help them that they had to start out doing what was supposed to be the end of season 4. The show got too strange with it ruining Betty’s character and not having an ultimate focus. What I saw of season 6, the whole Rivervale arc, was just way too out there. It’s as if the writers were high on jingle jangle. Plus they waited far too late in the show to just now suddenly introduce supernatural elements. I’m done with the show again so we’ll see if it sticks this time or not. It probably will.

There is one last thing to note before I get to the episode in question. There have been some recent spam comments on this blog. While I deleted them as one would, I’m hoping that this doesn’t become a thread. If it does, I’ll have no choice but to ban any comment on any post of this blog. I would even have to do this on other blogs should this happen there as well. I wouldn’t be too torn up by this since there aren’t really any comments on this blog anyways. But I thought that I would mention this here in case you were wanting to comment and ultimately aren’t able to. But enough of my ramblings.

In the first segment of the show, Romeo talks about the vote off. Rocks thinks that he understands now why the vote happened the way it was. Many don’t want to work with him. Tori wants to lie. I thought that it was the therapist’s patients that lied on a sofa. How does a therapist lying make you feel? In the meantime, Jonathan is annoyed by Maryanne and her constant talking. He takes a break, but goes back and still has issues with her like when she thinks that he hit her. People think that she’s being too petty. And they want to vote her out.

Daniel talks some about what is going on in the game. Whose games are the most in danger? He decides to go fishing. People are remembering his dislocated shoulder. But this makes people not trust him since he’s doing well at least fishing some, if not well in general regarding his shoulder. Maybe he shouldn’t have been holding himself back in challenges. But I thought that if it really were in issue, they would have pulled him from the game. Maybe they shouldn’t have believed him in the first place.

In the second segment of the show, Romeo wants to go looking for an idol and does it with Drea. And by that I mean, he looks for an idol with Drea. Get your filthy minds out of the gutter. He talks about how he coaches pageant women. Did he get this job by riding up the glass escalator? Drea insists that she and other women are better than men. Well, duh. It’s not rude to say that. She knows about the one phrase that has been said. She wonders why the green tribe hasn’t said it.

Mike says that he isn’t yet sure if he wants to say the phrase since it means others know that he has it. He can get his vote back at the merge without people knowing this. Maybe there is some smartness about this. He doesn’t yet know if he will say it. Everyone on his tribe knows about his idol. If people in Survivor would only learn to keep their mouths shut, then only the three people who say the phrase would have to worry about knowing who this is. Also, a Survivor writer (which doesn’t exist anyways) should have been fired by now since they are repeating the basic plot themes of people not being able to keep secrets since Heroes versus Healers versus Hustlers.

In the third segment of the show, the tribes gather for the challenge and make their phrases again with all three of them saying it. Maryanne is glad that someone says the phrase. Does the fact that some of the phrases were bungled matter at all? Mike is glad that someone else said the phrase. The challenge is described too quickly for me to write so maybe this is why I never mention what the challenge is. Daniel is the sit out. Despite being seen so much in confessionals to an extent, I don’t think that he’s going to be lasting much longer in the game.

The blue tribe comes in first. The orange tribe unusually struggles for a while, but still manages to beat the green tribe. I guess that The Super Tight Four is going to stay strong thus far. Another journey will be made by two players. Hai is more certain now that he will be in control of the vote.

In the fourth segment of the show, both Daniel and Chanelle feel that they are in danger and both want one on ones with all of the tribe members. It seems that people want Daniel gone and they don’t want him to play the shot in the dark. But that hasn’t yet meant anything. Hai wants to split the votes. In now all depends on what Lydia does.

Speaking of that, she and Rocks arrives at the summit. She talks about having body issues. She feels very comfortable in what has happened in the game thus far but still wants to see and do more in Survivor. Rocks decides to protect his vote. Lydia makes the same decision. Also, I have the feeling that they won’t be able to keep doing this or this exact same set up beyond this season. Anyways, Lydia is told between who is going home. But she knows that between her and Hai, they are controlling the vote this time around with Mike also on their side and the vote between Daniel and Chanelle.

In the fifth segment of the show, we get to tribal council. Mike is told that people may be doing what they are supposed to be doing, but still have to control what goes on at the end. Hai is told that some people could be lying. Mike sees the tribe as a team and that’s how Daniel feels about this. Chanelle thinks that Daniel was doing some of that for show. He claims that it was genuine, but Chanelle doesn’t seem to buy this based on her face at the time. Lydia thinks that a merge is coming up.

The numbers are not obvious. Trust is the main issue at hand. Hai wants to establish trust. Daniel thinks that only the truly greatest players don’t get burned at least once. Jeff claims that they have to get rid of the least trustworthy player. Mike only wants to vote based on game play. The votes are cast and no one played an advantage. There’s a random vote for Mike in there. What? This leads to a tie, but only maybe the second one in Survivor history that is certain to be resolved in a revote. Daniel is voted out of the game as a result.

On the next Survivor, it is two hours and they are finally admitting it again. I only hope that they keep this up. Thank you for reading this blog, whoever did this, whether you are a Survivor person or deal with the promos on CBS. Anyways, it is possibly like the weird merge from last season, but hopefully not too much of a repeat as the hourglass twist probably shouldn’t happen again. I guess that we will see what will happen in the end.

Total confessional count: Tori- 6, Lydia- 5, Maryanne- 10, Daniel- 10, Mike- 12, Drea- 8, Jonathan- 7, Omar- 13, Rocksroy- 6, Lindsay- 6, Romeo- 5, Hai- 9, Chanelle- 10.

New confessionals this episode: Daniel- 2, Mike- 4, Drea- 2, Jonathan- 1, Omar- 1, Rocksroy- 3, Lindsay- 0, Romeo- 1, Hai- 3, Chanelle- 1, Tori- 1, Lydia- 2, Maryanne- 2.

It seems that only Lindsay wasn’t seen as much in this episode. We seem to be at a point where a lot of the players have ten or more confessionals. The lowest total seems to be a tie between Lydia and Romeo. Omar has the most right now, but that could be bloated due to the summit.

Note that with next week being Holy Week and today being the last Wednesday Lenten service of the year, there will be only one more week, namely next week, where I will allow myself to post this blog on Thursday instead of the usual Wednesday. While I can delay the current episode posts to other days of the week, I don’t plan to or want to since it means delaying at least one old season’s posts until the end of this season. (This is my own rule that I’d want to enforce.) We’ll see if there are any delays or reasons why I can’t get a post done in time like a family visit, storm coverage, phone poll, or other reason why I can’t get a post done on a Wednesday. We’ll have to see what happens for sure later. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
