Survivor: China episode 11: Ready to Bite the Apple

Since it has already happened, I might as well talk some about the Winter Olympics in China and the diplomatic boycott that happened. I wanted at once to be on China’s side mainly because of all of the racism going on because of the pandemic, even if not all of it was targeted at those of Chinese descent.  Of course, there are a whole lot of concerning things going on with that country and I agree with the diplomatic boycott in the end.

I’m glad that the US didn’t go with a full boycott and punish the athletes. Still, with the treatment of certain Muslims in the country (with the Chinese giving us a middle finger by having one of them lighting the torch), the forced disappearances, and various other issues, then it is hard to know how to handle this the right way. Even covid origins should be public, if we can find that in the end after all.

Let’s get to the idols from Winners at War part 6. This one is kind of simple and dumb. Rob had an idol bought, but he never got back in the game so the idol was null the whole time. That’s the gist of this idol this time around.

There were two choices of what to cover in terms of challenges. I rolled the letter r and the other choice being q. There will be two choices for a while now as I will get to in this post. All I know is that I’m going to get to the challenges that start with r next.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Rice_Race

In this challenge, contestants would swim to a boat, get bags of rice, go through an obstacle course, and open the bags to get BALLS! They would then get these bags through either a holey wall or a table maze. It would use part of either house of the holey or snag, bag, and drag. It could probably be done while social distancing if done individually. I’m unsure of if this ever could be done by itself or without one of the two other challenges completing it.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Running_Down_a_Dream

In this challenge, contestants must get balls through an overhead track, catch these balls, dig their way under a log, and then do one final thing. It had a link to the challenge Matt Finish when it first appeared, which I had already covered in this season’s blog posts already. It is likely that versions of this could be done while social distancing.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Race_to_Shore

This is also known as First to Shore, One for All, Medallion of Power, and The Marooning. In this, people have to find something or get somewhere before the other tribe or before other certain members in the tribe or just everyone in the game as it would sometimes be an individual challenge at the start of the game as this is always an opening challenge to start the game. There are some ways that this could be done while social distancing, especially if turned into a relay race or done in some other fashion that could keep the people apart from one another. This was combined with the already covered jungle relay in Survivor 42.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Ram-Ball_On

In this challenge, contestants have to balance a ball on a pole while going through different obstacles while making the pole longer, get across a balance beam, untie knots to progress, put the ball on the table to get a key, unlock sandbags, and then shoot the sandbags at targets. I think that this could easily be done while social distancing. The name of this challenge is a reference to the Led Zeppelin song Ramble On, which is similar to the name of the challenge used.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Rescue_Mission

This is also known as triage and mayday. In it, people would have to rescue their other tribe mates using a stretcher or something like it. This could not be done while social distancing as it relies of people touching each other to work or otherwise being close to each other.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Rise_and_Shrine

This is also known as temple of the Syrinx, along the watch tower, tower of equality, and bonus track. In it, contestants have to race through obstacles and up large sets of walls up a tower to complete a puzzle. An individual version of this could potentially be done while social distancing if they amend the part where people have to help each other up the tower. Rise and Shrine is similar to the Christian children’s song Rise and Shine while the alternative name, along the watch tower, is a reference to the Bob Dylan song All Along the Watchtower.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Rock_Bottom

In this challenge, contestants would have to bring things from beneath the water, first finding a shell while avoiding being the last one to do it and then grabbing a rock and taking it back to shore before anyone else would. This could be done while social distancing.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Rock_n%27_Roll

This is also known as Lemme Go Rock n’ Roll, Keep Digging, and Rollings Stones. In it, contestants have to roll a boulder through checkpoints while doing tasks along the way, possibly having to climb the bolder at some point. The last two times it has appeared in both 41 and 42, the randomly divided groups created lopsidedness in strength allowing for one team to easily beat the other, only for a twist to allow those losers to count as winners instead, which created unfairness all around. This could not be done while social distancing.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Rod_Screw-It

In this challenge, tribes must hop across tables, release sandbags, then hit spinning targets to raise all of their flags. An individual version of this could be done while social distancing. It is possible that even a tribal version of this could also be done while social distancing at all, if done right.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Roll_With_It

This is also known as Blind Barrow. In it, a contestant would be strapped into a wooden spherical cage, or driving wheel in the case of David versus Goliath, who would then lead their blindfolded tribe mates to lead them through a course and then have people solve a table maze to win the challenge. It could not be done while social distancing. It was one of only a few and the very first challenge to not be completed and remains the only one not to have any tribe or individual win.

https://survivor.fandom.com/wiki/Roller_Ball

This is also known as Take the Reins and Pegs over Easy. In any of its variants, all one has to do is something like keeping a ball on a disc that gets more difficult and they often have to add more balls. This could be done while social distancing.

I’ve decided that I’m going to be sharing a Chinese paragraph in this season’s blog posts until I’m done with this season in question. I’ll try to find another place in this blog to put it in when I’m done with this season at some point. I had a lot of this foreign language paragraphs planned in advance and now I need to make sure that I do more of them as soon as I can in order to make sure that enough are done. I’m unsure if I have enough written for season 42, for instance.

In this old post from my blog on The Good Wife blog, I mention a lot of things like changes from a terrorist attack, which affected the airing of a Supergirl episode. It was switched with the next planned episode. I thought that it was weird to have an episode being promoted again that didn’t wind up airing in the first place, but then found out what went on. I also thought of not doing a font that I would wind up doing again. I’m also unsure of what I meant by saying Alicia is part of a client.

There’s only one video that I’m going to share in this post. This one is a now famous video called I Like Cats. She is not a woman that I’m dating. I have the feeling that she might still be single. So maybe I should be trying to date her. I just don’t know the age difference between us. I have the feeling that I am long overdue for signing up for online dating or something like that.

Getting to when this episode was rolled, it was on 4-20-2022 that I was able to see this episode and will now get to what happened in it. I can only hope that I don’t need to see any more of them for quite some time since I’m long needing to get caught up on tapes but have been ignoring them for a while. We’ll see how I juggle things around, especially after season 42 ends.

We begin with Jeff explaining what is going on with a reward taking place at tribal council. It is nice to, after a double cliffhanger with it being the same one, finally get to what is happening next. All one has to do to win the challenge is get five questions right before anyone else does. But what is there is a tie? It is hard to know unless it happens. Peih-Gee winds up winning the reward. She winds up picking Erik and Denise to go along with her. Everyone heads back to camp first.

The reward winners don’t want all of the players at camp to eat their food. Denise is concerned about what might be happening without them. Todd thinks that these four should be the final four. James wants everyone to frolic naked without someone biting the apple. Courtney wants to take James out. James is rather annoying.

Anyways, the reward winners go on their reward with Peih-Gee not liking going in their state. She thinks that the three of them can get James to join them. But the focus of this is more about how great their experience at the temple that they go to is. Peih-Gee likes learning more about her Chinese heritage there. Denise was really glad that she was picked on the reward and even shows off her martial arts skills there as well. They all have a good time and I’m going to repeat a common joke you might have heard of already in case you’ve seen this before. I know this wasn’t a Confucius temple, but I’m going to make jokes relating to them for the rest of this season. The rest of them will be original.

Confucius says: He who runs in front of car gets tired. He who runs behind car gets exhausted.

I realize that this would have been better timed back when they had covered one of his expressions in one of the reward challenges, but I got confused and forgot that this was the Shaolin temple that was focused on in this episode. There’s actually way more than just one Confucius temple.

Back to the episode, the rest of the tribe is at a cave back at camp that somehow exists and they are upset largely when other people return there. Todd is especially annoying and I’ll get more to him in the next post of this blog. The next day, Amanda is talking to Courtney. Was Amanda naked just now? Didn’t she say that her mother would kill her for when her breasts were revealed earlier this season? Wait. She’s in a camouflage bikini. I didn’t see that at first. Anyways, Amanda wants to blindside James.

This leads to the immunity challenge. Peih-Gee is the first one out, not scoring any points. Todd goes next and gets three points hitting the very private part of the silhouette. Erik goes next and gets a lot of points. Courtney ties with Erik. James gets six like others as well. Amanda also gets six. That’s good since three sixes are considered satanic. Denise doesn’t get enough points. We get a top four instead of a top three. They only get one throw each. Erik does the best and wins the challenge as a result.

At camp, James is convinced that Peih-Gee will be the next person voted out. Amanda is convinced that now is their chance to target James and vote him out. Todd is, of course, worried about the idol like he should be. Peih-Gee is also concerned about this. She talks to Amanda about this. Peih-Gee is told to act like she’s going home and not talk about it. She still tells Erik about this. Erik is concerned about going along with this in the end. James is convinced that things will be good if he gets passed tonight. He still wants to play an idol if he has to.

This takes us to tribal council. Denise was happy about the reward. James said that the former Zhan Hu were losers but Peih-Gee points out that they’ve won immunities and will need to vote for someone if they wind up on the jury so James should be nicer than he is. Peih-Gee thinks that she is the one who will be the target tonight. The votes are cast. Peih-Gee votes for Todd. James votes for Peih-Gee. The rest of the players, namely Erik, Amanda, Courtney, Todd, and Denise vote for James. James infamously does not play either idol of his and gets voted out as a result.

On the next Survivor, the tribe is overcome by emotion, Amanda seeks to turn on Todd, and Denise is the swing vote who wants to do or die. But this isn’t a do or die moment as that won’t happen for the first time until season 41.

Total confessional count: James- 32, Amanda- 19, Courtney- 21, Todd- 38, Peih-Gee- 24, Denise- 18, Erik- 18. New confessionals this episode: Erik- 2, James- 4, Amanda- 1, Courtney- 2, Todd- 3, Peih-Gee- 5, Denise- 4.

James, I feel, might be seen by some fans more in rose colored glasses that he has always seems to have been portrayed throughout his seasons. He has always been annoying. Yet people point out that he is unlucky when it comes to him playing Survivor. Part of me thinks that he wanted to ruin his reputation to avoid being asked back for Survivor. But he did play again.

In Micronesia, the very next season, he made Survivor history by being the second person who was medically evacuated from a single season. It was over a finger that put him on the jury. But that would not be his last time playing the game.

In Heroes versus Villains, he returned as a hero and got injured yet again in a challenge so infamous, it got banned from appearing again. He wasn’t the only one ever hurt by it. While it didn’t ultimately get him voted out of the game right away or ever pulled from the game, it did get him voted out not too much later long before the merge happened.

So what are his chances of playing the game again? I’d put it at about a 20% chance of happening. I don’t think that he wants to return and a lot of fans don’t like him as much anymore. I do think that it made sense that he wasn’t considered for Philippines since he had already played since being medically evacuated, the first of any of the evacuated players to do so.

There’s not too much else to add. If it isn’t obvious by now, I will post any spoilers about a season that has already aired, even if I’m blogging about it again or first the first time. Note that when I get to a major spoiler of this season in the introduction to the next post, as it is something that I feel needs to be addressed. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
